A clash took place between security forces and militants in Handwada, Jammu and Kashmir this morning. Four people, including an army colonel and a major, and a Jammu and Kashmir police officer were killed in the encounter. The martyrs include National Rifles Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, Major Anuj Sud and a police sub-inspector Shakeel Qazi. It is also known that two terrorists were killed in this encounter. One of these terrorists has been identified as India's biggest enemy.
According to the IG of Kashmir, Vijay Haider, the top commander of Pakistan's Haider-Lashkar-e-Taiba, was killed in the encounter.
Two militants were shot dead in the encounter, which took place on Saturday in the Chanjmullah area of Hindwada, an army spokesman said, adding that militants and security forces clashed.
According to the statement, security forces received information that terrorists had taken several people hostage in a house in Handwada in Kupwara district. After which the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation. An army and police team went inside the house to free the hostages. The team managed to free the hostages.
During this time, however, the terrorists fired heavily on the team. Two terrorists have been killed in the encounter. Two Army officers, two jawans and a sub-inspector of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have been killed.
